SHS New Student Drop-Off Process
Dear SHS Families,
Beginning Monday, August 24
As we continue to evaluate concerns with traffic backing up on Lions Road, while also maintaining a safe environment for our students as they park and walk through the parking lot, we will begin a new student drop-off process on Monday, August 24.
We have provided a map below to help families understand the new morning drop-off procedures and traffic flow.
Student Entrance
The current student entrance is Door 19, located at the Lon Gerrish Gym. Once the new Activity Entrance is completed, students will be able to enter the building through that entrance. Our new drop off procedure will not change once the new activity entrance is opened.
Important Traffic & Drop-Off Changes
Two-Way Road
The old “one-way” road is now a two-way road. Please use caution and be aware of vehicles traveling in both directions.
Option 1 – Lions Road
If entering from Lions Road, you will be directed to pull forward to the designated student drop-off area near the new Activity Entrance. Students will then walk to Door 19 to enter the building.
Option 2 – Dayton Street
If entering from Dayton Street, you may drop your student off near Door 1. Students will then walk to the front of the building and enter through Door 19 (Lon Gerrish Gym).
Best Time for Morning Drop-Off
The ideal drop-off time is between 7:00–7:35 a.m. After 7:35 a.m., traffic begins to back up on Lions Road and can impact traffic at the grade school.
If you are dropping off your student(s), please plan accordingly and give yourself enough time to safely navigate the drop-off area.
Student Safety Comes First
As you drive through the parking lot, please remember that students have the right-of-way at all times. Students will be walking through the parking lot as they arrive at school, so we ask all drivers to:
Drive slowly and remain alert.
Watch carefully for students crossing the parking lot.
Follow the designated drop-off routes.
Be patient with other drivers and students.
Follow the directions of staff assisting with traffic.
We appreciate everyone's patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we implement this new process. Our goal is to improve traffic flow on Lions Road while keeping the safety of our students our top priority.
Thank you for helping us keep SHS safe!
Sincerely,

Dr. Shane Darnell
Principal
